Turning Winds – Alternative Education That Works

There are many different alternative education options that are available for students these days. Parents who have children who don’t perform well in school, or have special needs could thrive better in these alternative schools. Turning Winds offers a type of alternative education that could work for different kinds of children in different situations. They are a therapeutic boarding school, which means that intensive therapy is part of the system while students earn academic credits.

Why consider therapeutic boarding school?

There are instances where a child doesn’t benefit much from getting therapy once or twice a week. The sessions are spaced too far from each other, and their immediate environment at school makes it hard for them to really use what they learn in therapy. There’s not much time to let the lessons sink in. Meanwhile, the challenges and influences they encounter in their daily lives become even more overwhelming. For some children, specifically those with conditions like ADD/ADHD, dyslexia and the likes, excelling in a mainstream school can be a feat that’s difficult to achieve. These children perform better with classes that are suited more for them in the same way that their therapy sessions are individualized.

In a therapeutic boarding school like Turning Winds, therapy is an integral component that’s present throughout the entirety of the program. Each child is assessed and is created a roadmap that is based on highly individualized psychoanalysis. At Turning Winds, all activities are therapeutic in nature and works towards the betterment of each student. The clinical services of Turning Winds’ therapeutic programs are carried out by licensed and experienced professionals who have a passion for what they are doing.

Turning winds also use outdoor therapy activities which helps students believe in their own potential and develop life skills that will be essential when they get out of camp. They learn to make sound decisions, to work with others towards a common goal, to be assertive, to be responsible for themselves, express their frustration in a constructive way, and more. Outdoor therapy helps teens realize that they can accomplish something in life, and in this environment, they learn to venture out of their comfort zones without the fear of getting rejected. Turning Winds’ outdoor therapy is very effective in promoting better self-esteem and self-worth.

Turning Winds is meant for long-term treatment, or at least 12 months in length. They are especially successful in helping teens that struggle with the anger issues, failing grades, underachieving in school, impulsiveness, acting out sexually, depression, weight problems, ADD/ADHD and the likes. They believe that given the right environment and the right kind of help from the right people, any child can change.

“Turning Winds has saved my life. I learned Direction here. I decided that I did not want to use drugs for the rest of my life. I also came to the reality that if I had not been sent to Turning Winds right now I would be dead. I have learned that no matter how hard things get, I can push through. I’m much stronger than before. I never realized how stuck in my own ways I was and addicted I really was. Turning Winds has given me help to change myself.”
